The Burrowing Owl is found throughout open landscapes of the Americas, including the Caribbean. In North America, this species often associates with Black-tailed Prairie Dog colonies. Over 20 subspecies have been described, including A. c. hypugaea (Western Burrowing Owl) shown on this page.
