Micrathena sagittata occurs in the eastern North America (north to southern Ontario and Maine), and in Central America south to Nicaragua. It is often found in moist woodlands, usually in the understorey. Small spider (male 4-5 mm, female 8-10 mm) with a red cephalothorax and legs, and mainly yellow abdomen. Sexually dimorphic; female exhibits three pairs of black-tipped red spines on the abdomen, the posterior pair giving it the distinctive arrow shape; male lacks the spines. The web often has a short stabilimentum. M. sagittata feeds on a variety of small insects.
