Chrysomelidae (Leaf Beetles)

The Chrysomelidae are one of the largest of beetle families, and include over 12 subfamilies, 2,500 genera, and > 37,000 described species. They are distributed worldwide, except for the High Arctic and the Antarctic. These are small to medium-sized beetles (the majority measures 1-18 mm; only few species reaching 35 mm). The bodies are domed, often glossy (metallic yellow, red or blue-green). The majority of species have short antennae, and wings, although some are flightless, with fused elytra. The adults feed on leaves, sometimes flowers or pollen, and the larvae on roots, underground stems, and leaves.
