The Diprionidae includes 2 subfamilies, 13 genera, and ca. 140 species of sawflies restricted to the coniferous forests of Northern Hemisphere. The adults are 6-12 mm in length; the antennae are pectinate (males) or serrated (females). The larvae feed on leaves of various conifers, and are often gregarious.
