Arisaema triphyllum is native to eastern North America, from Minnesota to Nova Scotia, and south to Texas and Florida. It grows in moist deciduous and mixed forests. This is a perennial herb 30-65 cm in height with trifoliate leaves. The inflorescence is a spike covered by a hooded spathe (up to 8 cm long), greenish, often with purple stripes; the flowers are minute. The fruit is a berry; shiny green, turning bright red when ripened. This species flowers from April to June. Pollinated by fungus gnats.
