Primulaceae (Primrose)

The Primulaceae encompasses 68 genera with 2,790 species found in Eurasia, the Americas, and the mountains of Africa. The majority of species are adapted to temperate or cold climes. Recent taxonomic changes placed the former families Myrsinaceae and Theophrastaceae in the Primulaceae. The majority of species are annual or perennial herbs, rarely shrubs or small trees. The leaves are simple, often toothed. The flowers are solitary or arranged in whorls around the stem nodes, and usually tubular. The fruit is a dry capsule.
