Ring-necked Snakes, Caribbean Racers, Keelbacks, and allies
(Dipsadinae)

The Dipsadinae are a large subfamily of the Colubridae and include 95-97 genera and ca. 700 species (with the Xenodontinae and Carphophiinaeare). They are found in the Americas, including the West Indies, and are most diverse in South America. The Dipsadinae contains mainly small to moderate-sized snakes, including arboreal, terrestrial, aquatic or burrowing species. The majority feeds on frogs, reptiles, and other small vertebrates; several genera specialize on frog eggs, earthworms, and terrestrial molluscs. The subfamily is sometimes treated as a full family (i.e., the Dipsadidae).
