Toucans (Ramphastidae) |
The toucans are confined to the Neotropics and range from southern Mexico to northern Argentina. The family includes five genera and 43 species. Toucans are arboreal and make their nests in tree hollows or cavities excavated by woodpeckers. Ramphastidae are primarily frugivorous, but they also plunder nests of smaller birds, taking eggs and nestlings, and opportunistically feed on insects and small lizards.
