Araneus nordmanni occurs in temperate Eurasia (from Western Europe and Caucasus east to Korea and Japan) and North America. It is often found in coniferous and mixed forests, e.g., in mountains; may be associated with the spruce (Picea spp.). Body length 6-10 mm in males, 7-19 mm in females. Cephalothorax and chelicerae are brown; abdomen is dark grey, brown, yellow, or greenish with dark-grey or brown pattern; two humps on the top. Legs brown, vaguely or distinctively annulated. Webs are span near the ground or high in trees; often span between spruce branches. This species feeds on flies, hymenopterans, and other flying insects. Adults are seen in July-September.
