Round Stingrays (Urotrygonidae) |
The Urotrygonidae contains two genera and 20 species. These stingrays are found in inshore tropical and subtropical waters of the Western Atlantic and Eastern Pacific in the Americas; at depths 0-90 m. Small rays (total length 17-90 cm; weight up to 2 kg) with a round disc; short tail with a venomous spine and well-developed caudal fin. Ovoviviparous. Formerly included in the family Urolophidae.
