Pomacanthus arcuatus is found in the Western Atlantic: from the Carolinas to Rio de Janeiro, in the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, and at Bermuda. Usually found in shallow coral reefs at depths 2-30 m; often in pairs. Adults are up to 60 cm in length; gray body covered in black spots; pale gray head; the dorsal and anal fins have elongated streamers. The juveniles have five vertical yellow bands over black body. Gray Angelfish mainly feed on sponges, but also on algae, tunicates, gorgonians, bryozoans, and other marine invertebrates. The juveniles are cleaners, attending cleaning stations.
