Whorled Loosestrife (Lysimachia quadrifolia)

Lysimachia quadrifolia is a forb found in eastern North America from southern Ontario and New Brunswick to Alabama and northern Georgia. It occurs in hardwood forests, thickets, fens, fields, and roadsides, from sea level to 1,000 m. The stems are erect, up to 100 cm in height; the leaves are whorled, elliptic to lanceolate, with entire margins. The flowers grow on long stalks from the leaf whorls; the corolla is yellow with a reddish centre, streaked with dark resin canals. This species flowers in May-June.
