Ptilostomis ocellifera
(Walker, 1852)

 

Synonyms: Ptilostomis kovalevskii, Neuronia simulans

 

 

 

Larvae of Ptilostomis ocellifera are very common in vernal pools in some deciduous and mixed forests of southern Ontario, Canada. They are predators, feeding on invertebrates, but also eggs and larvae of amphibians.
