Yellow-crescent Blister Beetle (Pyrota insulata)

Synonyms: Lytta insulata

 

 

 

This species of blister beetle occurs in North America, from the central Great Plains (Wyoming) south to Texas and western Mexico (Durango). Pyrota insulata emerges as early as late February in the lower Rio Grande Valley, but in April and May further north. Adults feed mainly on nectar of Honey Mesquite (Prosopis glandulosa).
