Common Water Strider (Aquarius remigis) (Say, 1832)

 

Synonyms: Gerris remigis

 

 

Aquarius remigis is the most common species of Gerridae in the United States and southern Canada. It inhabits surfaces of lakes, ponds, vernal pools, puddles, backwaters of rivers and streams, etc. The body is dark brown to black; 11.5-16 mm long. Adults are nearly always wingless. A. remigis feeds on mosquito larvae and other small insects.
