Masked Hunter (Reduvius personatus) (Linnaeus, 1758) |
Other names: bedbug hunter |
Reduvius personatus is native to Europe, but was accidentally introduced to North America, South Africa, and elsewhere. It is usually found in and around buildings, and also in dry woodlands. Adults (16-22 mm in length) are uniformly dark brown to black. The nymphs appear light grey, because they camouflage themselves with dust, sand, or lint, adhered to a sticky substance excluded by the nymph. Adults and nymphs prey on woodlice, lacewings, bed bugs, and earwigs.
