Bembix americana is widely distributed in the Americas from southern Canada to Central America and the Caribbean; 6 subspecies. Black abdomen with broad yellowish or greenish bands. It inhabits sandy areas and excavates nest holes in the sand. No prey specifics for B. americana, but females of other Bembix species hunt and paralyse flies, which are then provisioned to the larvae.
