Pelecinid Wasps (Pelecinidae) |
The Pelecinidae contains only one contemporary genus, Pelecinus, with three species distributed in the Americas. These are large wasps with glossy bodies and wings; hind wings are small. Pelecinus spp. parasitize beetle, fly, sawfly and lacewings grabs. Females possess long, curled abdomen (up to 7 cm) used to lay eggs directly on larvae buried in the soil.
