Glassy Pierella (Pierella hyalinus)

Synonyms: Papilio hyalinus, Pierella hyaline, Hyalinus pierella, Hyalinus satyr |
Pierella hyalinus ranges from Panama and northern South America to the southern Amazon; also in Trinidad. It inhabits the understorey of humid tropical forests. This species is dark brown with blue and brown hindwings. Adults feed on fermenting fruits, and the caterpillars of leaves of Poaceae (e.g., Orthoclada laxa), Heliconiaceae, and Marantaceae.
