Green-eyed Skimmers (Corduliidae)

 

The Corduliidae encompasses ca. 22 genera and > 200 species, and includes the baskettails, emeralds, sundragons, shadowdragons, and boghaunters. The family is represented nearly worldwide. These dragonflies are usually black or dark brown, often with bronze-green iridescence on their thorax and abdomen; most species have large, emerald-green eyes.
