Fire Corals, Hydroids and Siphonophores (Hydrozoa) |
The Hydrozoa encompasses ca. 3,700 species of hydroids, fire corals, limnomedusae, trachymedusae, siphonophores, etc. They occur in nearly all marine habitats throughout the world, but a few species inhabit in fresh and brackish water. Most hydrozoans have both sessile or sedentary polyp and free-swimming medusae stages in their life cycle. They feed primarily on zooplankton.
