Hyraxes (Hyracoidea) |
All contemporary hyraxes belong to the family Procaviidae (the only living family within the Hyracoidea); the Procaviidae contains 3 genera and 5 species restricted to Africa and the Middle East. Hyraxes are small to medium-sized herbivores, with short legs, round ears, shot tail, and tusk-like upper incisors in males. Two species inhabit rocky outcrops and cliffs, and the other species are primarily arboreal.
