Nabalus racemosus occurs across Canada, from Alberta to Newfoundland, south to Colorado, Illinois, and New Jersey in the United States. It grows in sandy, gravelly and rocky soils on stream banks, lakeshores, wet meadows, tall-grass prairies, fens, and bogs; sea level to 2,800 m. Glaucous Rattlesnakeroot is a herb with green or light purple glaucous stem and spatulate leaves; flower heads are in narrow arrays, with pinkish ray flowers. This species flowers in August and September.
