Solidago juncea is widely distributed in central and eastern Canada (from Manitoba to Nova Scotia), and the eastern United States, south to Louisiana and northern Georgia; from sea level to ca. 1,000 m asl. This species grows in sandy dry or mesic soils, and sometimes in gravelly soils, in prairies, savannas, open woods, along forest edges, and in abandoned fields. This is the earliest goldenrod to flower in the Great Lakes area.
