The Lauraceae comprises 2,980 species in ca. 68 genera. They occur mainly in tropical regions, especially Southeast Asia and South America, but also the Mediterranean and temperate parts of North America and Asia. Most species are aromatic evergreen or deciduous trees or shrubs, but there is also a genus of parasitic vines.
