Meliaceae (Mahogany) |
The Meliaceae includes 2 subfamilies, 53 genera and ca. 600 species found primarily in the tropics around the globe. Several species extend into temperate areas of East Asia and Australia. The majority of species are trees and shrubs; mainly evergreen, but some are deciduous. Leaves alternate and usually pinnate. Flowers are arranged in clusters, cymes, panicles or spikes. Fruit syncarpous. Some species are exploited for timber.
