Polygala senega is a perennial herb native to North America, where it is distributed across southern Canada and the central and eastern United States, south to Oklahoma and Georgia. It prefers dry rocky or gravelly calcareous soils, along forest edges, in open woodlands, prairies, and alvars. Seneca Snakeroot has several stems, small lance-shaped leaves, and cone-shaped clusters of white rounded flowers.
