The Scrophulariaceae includes annual and perennial herbs, and shrubs. The family has a cosmopolitan distribution, with the majority of species found in temperate areas, including tropical mountains. Flowers are irregular, with 5 united sepals and 5 united petals, usually 2-lipped with 2 lobes above and 3 lobes below. The family has been recently revised, and retained 76 genera and 1,576 species.
