Vitaceae (Grapevine) |
The Vitaceae (or Vitidaceae) encompass 16 genera and 985 species. They are found in the Americas, Africa, Eurasia, Australia, and many oceanic islands; primarily in the tropics and subtropics, but few genera occur in temperate regions. These a vines or lianas, occasionally shrubs or small trees. Leaves alternate, simple or compound; often palmately lobed, with dentate or serrate margins. Tendrils usually present. Flowers bisexual or unisexual, with 4-5 sepals and petals; arranged in cymes or spikes. Fruit is a berry, with 1-4 seeds.
