White-dotted Prominent (Nadata gibbosa) (J.E. Smith, 1797)

 

Other names: Rough Prominent, Green Oak Caterpillar Moth, Tawny Prominent

 

 

 

Nadata gibbosa is common across much of North America from the northern boreal forests to California and Florida. It is most common in deciduous forests, including forest edges. The adults fly from April to October. The caterpillar feeds mostly on leaves of oaks (Quercus spp.) and and American Beech (Fagus grandifolia), but also of alders, birches, maples, willows, etc.
