Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus) Linnaeus, 1758

 

Synonyms: Pterourus glaucus

 

 

Papilio glaucus is native to eastern North America. This species flies from spring to fall, usually around woodland edges and wetlands. Adults feed on the nectar from a variety of flowers, mostly from Asclepiadaceae, Asteraceae, and Fabaceae. Male is yellow with black stripes on the forewing, and female may be either yellow with black stripes or black. Caterpillars feed on leaves of trees and shrubs from Rosaceae and Magnoliaceae families.
