Parides iphidamas occurs in southern Mexico, Central America, and northern South America. It is common in open woodlands and along forest edges, from sea level to 1,200 m. The caterpillar feeds on pipevines (Aristolochia spp.). There are seven subspecies; the nominate P. i. iphidamas is found in Central America, from southern Mexico to Panama.
