Tamerlan Silkmoth (Titaea tamerlan)

Synonyms: Dysdaemonia tamerlan, Dysdaemonia nobilis, Dysdaemonia avangareza, Dysdaemonia guayaquila |
Titaea tamerlan ranges from southern Mexico to northern Argentina; also in Trinidad. This moth occurs in humid and seasonal tropical and subtropical forests, including second growth; up to ca. 1,500 m. It is beige with brown spots, and 2-3 clear eyespots in the forewing. The forewing measures 78-91 mm. The larvae feed on several species of the Malvaceae, including Bombax spp. and Ceiba pentandra.
