Skippers (Hesperiidae)

The Hesperiidae contains eight subfamilies, ca. 550 genera, and 3,500 species of skipper butterflies. The family is distributed worldwide, but is most diverse in Central and South America. The majority of species are small, brown, grey or orange, sometimes with white or yellow pattern; few species are green with metallic iridescence. Skippers have hooked antennae, short stocky bodies, relatively small wings, and rapid, skipping flight.
