Hamadryas feronia is found in the tropical Americas: from Mexico to Paraguay and northern Argentina, and on Trinidad; occasionally in southern Texas. This species is found along tropical forest edges, in savanna, and second growth; at 0-1,400 m. The upperside is a mosaic of white, brown and bluish-grey; the underside is white or whitish-tan with dark markings. The wingspan 73-83 mm. Adults often perch head-down, flattened against the surface of tree trunks, well-camouflaged against the bark. They feed on rotting fruit, and the caterpillar on Dalechampia spp. (Euphorbiaceae).
