Magneuptychia libye is a Neotropical species ranging from southern Mexico to Bolivia; also in Trinidad. It inhabits the understorey of tropical rainforests and cloud forests, savanna and secondary woodlands; sea level to 1,800m. The upperwings are light brown; the underwings bluish, with brown or ochre stripes, and a submarginal line of ocelli on the hind wing. Wingspan 40-47 mm. Adults obtain nutrients from decomposing fungi and bird droppings; the larva feeds on grasses (Poaceae), e.g., Panicum spp.
