Lamia Pierella (Pierella lamia)

Pierella lamia occurs in South America from Colombia to Bolivia and southeastern Brazil. It is found in the understorey of tropical rainforests at 50-1,400 m. The forewings are light-brown, striped with three darker lines; the hind wings with five dark brown ocelli; the wingspan ca. 60 mm. This is a crepuscular species; the flight is low, but rapid. Adults feed at decomposing fruit and fungi on the forest floor, and the caterpillar on Heliconia spp.
