Bellatrix Prominent (Crinodes bellatrix)
(Stoll, 1780)
|
Crinodes bellatrix is widespread in humid forests of tropical South America from sea level to 800 m. When resting, this species raises tufts of scales on the wings and thorax, retracts head, and folds wings tightly around the body, achieving a perfect camouflage by resembling a fallen tree seed.
