Romaleidae - Lubber Grasshoppers |
The Romaleidae are primarily Neotropical, although some species reach the southern and western United States. The lubber grasshoppers are heavy-bodied, and often brightly marked; some have shortened wings. The Romaleidae contains 109 genera and ca. 470 species, and includes the largest known grasshoppers. Some authorities, place the lubber grasshoppers in the Acrididae, as a subfamily Romaleinae.
