| Smoky Shrew (Sorex fumeus) |
Sorex fumeus is a medium-sized shrew found in damp deciduous and mixed forests of eastern Canada and the northeastern United States, including the Appalachian Mountains. Its summer coat is brown, and in winter it is dark gray with silvery hues. This species feeds mostly on beetles and other insects, but also earthworms, snails, small rodents, etc.
