Microtus arvalis is widely distributed in Eurasia, ranging from northern Spain to Kazakhstan and Mongolia (Map). It inhabits meadows, pastures, fallow lands, fields, and woodlands; up to 3,000 m. Common Voles are brown-gray, with lighter undersides; tails are relatively short. They maintain aboveground runways, through the home range, and feed on leaves and seeds of grasses, including cultivated species, and other plants.
