Synonyms: Pine Vole, Pitimys pinetorum |
Microtus pinetorum occurs in eastern North America, from southern Ontario and Michigan south to Texas and northern Florida (Map). It is found in deciduous forests, orchards, and fields with moist, loamy soils. This species is semi-fossorial, with reduced eyes, ears and tail; the pelage is ochre-grey or brown. Woodland Voles live in family groups in a network of burrows, and feed on tubers, roots, seeds, nuts, subterranean fungus, etc.
