Baiomys taylori occurs in northern and central Mexico and the southwestern United States; from lowlands to ca. 2,500 m. It inhabits prairies, thornscrub, oak savanna, and forests, including disturbed sites. Northern Pygmy Mouse feeds on a variety of seeds, fruit, leaves, etc. This species is superficially similar to House Mouse (Mus musculus), and may be mistaken for it.
