Mesoamerican Gulf – Caribbean Mangroves |
The Mesoamerican Gulf-Caribbean mangroves occupy a long expanse of disjunctive coastal habitat from the Gulf of Mexico south of Tampico (Mexico), and along the Caribbean Sea in the Yucatan Peninsula, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. Mangrove tree species are represented by Red Mangrove (Rhizophora mangle), Black Mangrove (Avicennia germinans), White Mangrove (Laguncularia racemosa), and Button Mangrove (Conocarpus erectus).
World Wildlife Fund subdivides Mesoamerican Gulf-Caribbean Mangroves into several ecoregions:
