Fulgoromorpha (Planthoppers) |
The infraorder Fulgoromorpha encompasses 17-20 families and ca. 12,500 described species; they are distributed worldwide, but are most diverse in the tropics. Fulgoroids have the bifurcate anal vein in the forewing, and the short, thick, three-segmented antennae. Nymphs and adult of many females produce wax from special glands; the wax is used for concealment, e.g., of eggs.
