Podisus placidus occurs in North America, from British Columbia to Quebec, and south to Utah and Oklahoma. It is found in mixed and deciduous forests, including forest edges, and in old fields. This species is drab or brownish with dull-yellow mottling; 7.5-11 mm in length. Adults prey on moth caterpillars, including Eastern Tent Caterpillar Moth (Malacosoma americana), and sawfly larvae (Hymenoptera), and apparently nectar (see below); the nymphs feed on plant sap. This species is active from mid-April to October, and may have more than one generation in the south.
