Pronghorn is the only living species of the family Antilocapridae. They occur in western North America, from southern Canada through the western United States, and into northern Mexico. Antilocapra americana inhabits grasslands and deserts, from near sea-level to 3,400 m. Some populations undertake seasonal movements. Both male and female have horns, but those of the male are longer and branch into two prongs. Pronghorn feed on forbs, grasses and leaves of sagebrush. They usually occur in small groups, but may form large herds in winter. This is the fastest land mammal in the Western Hemisphere.
