Pronghorn (Antilocapridae) |
The Antilocapridae contains only one extant species, the Pronghorn (Antilocapra americana), restricted to plains of western and central North America. The family thrived during the Pleistocene, when up to 12 species existed. A. americana is sometimes included in the family Bovidae along with the Old World antelopes, but, unlike Bovidae, male Pronghorn shed their horns after the mating season.
