Parascalops breweri occurs in eastern North America, including southern Ontario and Quebec, the northeastern USA, and the Appalachians south to the Great Smoky Mountains. This species is fossorial and inhabits light, moist soil with thick humus layer in deciduous and mixed forests, second growth, meadows, and old fields. Hairy-tailed Mole has silky grey fur, a pointed snout, and a short, hairy tail. Its front paws are broad and spade-shaped; the eyes are rudimentary. P. breweri eats primarily insects and their larvae, earthworms, slugs, and other invertebrates.
