Moles (Talpidae)

The Talpidae are found across Eurasia and in North America. The family includes the moles, shrew moles, and desmans, and is divided into 17 genera and 46 species. The majority of talpids are fossorial; the other species are subfossorial, and some are also semiaquatic. The moles have forelimbs adapted for digging; desmans have webbed hind feet. All species have small eyes and poor eyesight. They feed on invertebrates, including earthworms, insect larvae, snails, crustaceans, etc.
